I have the MC version. Even though this lens isn't optically as perfect as some slower 35s, it is the lens that is on my Zeiss Ikon most of the time. I love how small and light this lens is, and it is a good performer overall. There is some barrel distortion, especially noticeable with close subjects. Bokeh is generally pleasing with this lens at f/2 and up. It can be a bit harsh at f/1.4, but I expected that.
My rating of 8/10 takes size, weight, and cost into account, as all of these are important to me. While I have not tested the lens technically, it is known to suffer from focus shift. For detailed technical testing of this lens, Reid Reviews is the place to go (pay subscription required). I can only report that I have been pleased with the results that I am getting at essentially all lens settings and subject distances.

I know giving something a 10 suggests it's perfect, which this lens may not be, but I really have nothing negative I can say about the lens so it has to be a 10.
I have the 40mm f/1.4 as well and the 35 seems to me to be a little sharper. I think the 35 has an extra element and maybe that makes the difference.
The lens brings up the 35mm framelines on the ZI but brings up the 50mm framelines on a CLE - which is why I have the 40mm as well.
If you want a lens hood that doesn't block the viewfinder, get the round one (VLH35P) which was originally made for the 35mm f/2.5 pancake lens and get a push on cap that fits over the hood instead of the horrible plastic clip-in one supplied with the lens.
I'm a 28mm lens user mainly but this is probably my second most used lens.
