i just ordered a panasonic g1, the first micro four thirds camera available.
stephen gandy will soon be selling (at the end of jan.) adapters that will allow the use of my precious zm lenses on this g1 body.
i am so excited about using the zm's on a digital body that does not cost 5 thousand dollars.
and my question is...will i be able to post about it here, photos and such??
just wondering.

I feel disenfranchised! Although I would have voted yes, too.

EDIT: Oops I see that in the time it took me to beat my kids off the keyboard and type an unnecessarily long reply, Brian conducted a definitive poll. For the record, I would have voted yes too.
Also, I just edited the FAQ (http://www.ziforums.com/faq.php) to cover questions like this ;).

Does this mean the idea of the RD-1 has gone by the way Joe?

for now, at least.
i missed a great deal on rff and was bummed out and started reading about the g1 and adapter and it seemed like a very good idea and cheaper than the used rd1.
so i ordered the g1.
and today, i get a p.m. from the seller of the rd1 who says the buyer backed out and it's mine if i want it!!!!
talk about bad kharma!!

Yes!
I'm thinking of G1 too. Only one thing confuses me a little bit - I like the appeal of Olympus prototype more:confused:

But no apparent EVF on the Olympus prototype. Do you want to frame with a rear panel LCD?

there is no sign of the olympus release yet.
if it appears and is more rangefinder like then it will make a great second body, or first body with a panasonic back up.
the g1 really is not all that expensive, especially considering it comes with a pretty good kit lens.
what to do with the sony a300 might cause some internal angst though.
helen, i'm not familiar with either camera so i'm not much help, sorry.

Helen, I'd say get the GX100 for now and then get the Oly micro 4/3 next year. :)
For me at least -- and just maybe a few others :) -- the G1 (and micro
4/3 format in general) combined with a full frame is a perfect
two-body digital combination. Factor in film, where I use a
rangefinder, and it ends up being a perfect three body combo. :)
The G1 excels in areas that my D700 doesn't, and vice versa. Being
able to use all my Nikkors on the G1 is huge. Being able to use my M
glass and LTM glass is huge. In fact it appears that the micro 4/3
mount works with more glass than any other camera...I even found an
adapter that will allow fitting Contarex mount lenses...
I used to own an M8, and don't mean to denigrate it in any way, it's just that the G1 makes more sense for me, and I can actually focus it accurately! Why do we buy M glass anyway, else to shoot wide open? :) G1 makes focus easy. And I don't mind the 2x crop factor, because if I need wide I can shoot film, or use the D700 if size isn't an issue.

Welcome Helen, good to see you here!
Have you ruled out the Micro Four Thirds system on account of size? Between the GX100 and DP2, my preference would be the latter. The dynamic range and smooth tonal transitions of the DP1/2 hold up well when pushing around tones in postprocessing, especially when processing to B&W. I suspect that much of what you love about "the look of film" will be present to a much greater extent with the Sigma than with any small sensor camera.

Thank You Amin...Best to You & this Site...xoxo
I have nothing against the 4/3rds system
for a short period of Time I had an E1 & then the 420
however I got hooked on the Rangefinder way of Seeing
and of course my Film Addiction
I do AGREE w/you
will wait for the DP2
I just want something to throw in the pocket and not worry about
& besides that FOEVEN sensor is GRAND
out of all the cameras I have gone through
I missed the DP1 the most .....(even more than the grd1 & 2)
