Here's my 5 yo son Oliver:

And my 4 yo Philip scoping out the scene while Oliver chimps:

Both of those were taken with ZF 35 Distagon.

Anyone else had or have a budding photographer in the house?

Nikki enjoys using her camera- especially video mode. She points it at everything until the memory cards fill up.

It's a phase- when I was her age, I loved 8mm movies.

I'll have to find some of the shots that she's taken with the vintage cameras.

Beautiful tonality in that second one Amin.

My kids both have Nikon DP&S cameras, and they get into them for a bit and then it lags. Usually they shoot the most when they have a class overnight trip or their baby cousin is around.

Thanks sepiareverb!

One good thing about being a kid is that no one minds when you taken their picture.

Brian, that's a great shot of Nikki. I love to capture that expression on my kids.

Thanks Helen! I think Oliver's got the bug. I'm going to have to upgrade his gear :).

These are good beginnings, Amin. My daughters are 4 and 5, and both use a digital camera. In our last trip [a few days ago] they took many photos. I still need to take a look at what they managed to get.

Thanks Raid. How cool that our kids are the same age. Here's one more from the other day:

That, after Philip asked Oliver to take a picture of his bum :D.

I now about "bum shots"! No clue what kids like about them.

I always have to watch for Nikki with a camera and a giggle coming from BEHIND me.

I always have to watch for Nikki with a camera and a giggle coming from BEHIND me.

I have seen too often my [shiny] head when photographed from the back. Sneaky kids we have!

My daughter, 18 and in her first year at U of T (am I proud or what?) has an OM-2 w/ 50/1.8 MC and an offbrand zoom, plus a Oly digi, the C4040. She likes the immediacy of digital, but doesn't like the way the digital operates -- no manual focus, controls in menues, etc. :D

Brian: Nikki's hair is now straight and long! :) She's a lovely young lady.

Thankyou- I'm loving her long hair. She has it long enough for a Ponytail now.

She's using a Digital camera for now, mostly likes to shoot video mode. I've got a Nikon or two just waiting for her.

Photography is a wonderful passion to pass on to your children. During WWII I saw little of my father so sharing photography with him was a big deal in my life. My oldest daughter has a degree in photography (and a degree in Philosophy) and earned an MA from the NYU graduate film school - she went on to win a Berlin Film prize for a short film but has been spending more time raising kids recently. The slack has been taken up by my youngest daughter who is majoring in photography at college after a stellar year as an ICP intern.

Having sat in on many sessions of the ICP teen programs, I can tell you one thing, never saw a bored teen among the kids working at seeing and creating images.

My 4-year old has the bug. Takes his brother and sisters these days. He uses a Fuji P&S.

I'm seeing a trend of the younger generation to want to try film phorography of late. Some on Flickr, others in person at camera departments. I've been giving away some of the SLR's and RF's picked up cheap and repaired. They go to good use, and keep the medium alive. I hope it continues.

I have a 26 YO daughter who has a dual major: photography and printmaking. She shoots mostly her Nikon DSLR. She is the one who got me interested in trying out some vintage film cameras when I was researching manual film cameras for her to use in her courses at school. My 17 YO daughter takes pretty good pictures when she isn't doing silly poses with her friends. My 16 YO son is more interested in insects than cameras or photography. Maybe that will change if I get the darkroom put together.

Welcome aboard!

Hey- if your son likes Insects, a Good Macro lens and ring light might do the trick.
