I'm much more familiar with 50 year old Zeiss lenses, do not have any of the new ones.

If the lens has a "chip" in it, it should meter. Nikon also has manual focus lenses that have a chip to allow metering. Some older manual lenses can be "chipped".

So, according to some articles found online, it looks like the ZF.2 lenses have "chips" for the meter system. I would check one out at a shop before buying.

Brian is completely right: ZF.2 lenses are "chipped". So metering will be fine with your D90.

But you will face another challenge: Focussing. When testing my Ultron 40/2 SL II (regarding the chip SL II lenses are similar if not identical to ZF.2 lenses) with my D70s. I found it very difficult to focus @f2 with a small viewfinder. The focus indicator did not seem to be very exact. A Katzeye screen might help. But I am using the Ultron with a FM3a only, which is a perfect match.

@joanlvh: Did you check the official Zeiss compatibility list for ZF.2 lenses? www.zeiss.com/c12567a8003b58b9/Contents-Frame/8e0430013be9aeb9c12576700045df32

Thats not my experience on a D90. The focus confirm is bang-on. Focusing, well its subjective isnt it as you have your own eyes. I use my zf's for street, my focus is tight and my subjects are moving.

There is some anecdotal evidence that the accuracy of the focus confirm dot can vary between body models but also happens to be an issue that can be remedied by a service/repair agent.

The cv lenses are not similar and only share that they are manual focus in betal barrels, the focusing heliod is nothing alike the FL is different and there is simply less glass on a cv.

Thanks for the hint, oneANT. Maybe I should check if the focus confirm is working properly.

Please note: I referred to the chips when comparing SL II with ZF.2 ("regarding the chip"). I assume that both share chips due to the fact that Cosina is manufacturing CV lenses as well as the major part of the current Zeiss SLR/RF lens line up.

Anyway, wether chips are identical, similar or completely different - metering with ZF.2 lenses will work.
