Joe, Epson gave me a RD1 to test for several month when it was introduced in 2004. I am not a digital shooter, but I really was impressed with what it could do. The handling was very much RF - you just flipped that screen inwards and shot with it like you would a "regular" Bessa. Unfortunately Epson did not follow my advice re pricing it. I stated that anything over $2000 would be difficult to move. Interestingly the reissue RDx is supposedly now priced at $2000!!
When the M8 was introduced, Leica gave me one to try for a couple of month. Yes, image quality was a bit better (40%+ larger sensor does help) - however, from the point of view of handling, the RD1 wins hands down.
OK, neither camera has convinced me that digital is for me - not until whatever 35 I put on the camera - will behave as a 35 on my M2!
The RD1 was the first and it will always keep that status - and some day I think we will look at it as the M2 of the digital Rf.
As an add on - I found that the RD1 was better at higher ISO than the M8.

i am very pleased with the handling of the rd1 and yes, it offers the rf experience that i enjoy.
i plan to spread the load with a couple of rd1 bodies and the zeiss ikon for film and the 'full frame' experience for my zm lenses.
i also have the g1 for a more complete digital experience, complete with auto focus etc.

J'adore la première photo.
Ce c-biogon est tout simplement l'un des meilleurs 35mm sur le marché !

Joe, the 35 shines. I just got mine today and will put it to work this weekend. Aside from cost was there a reason you chose the 2.8 over the 2.0?
