Hi Joe, good to see you here!

Glad you like the look of the site. I'm still working a bit on the design. Here's a draft someone did for me for a new logo and category images/icons for the forum. What do you think?

i like the icons.
the logo seems kinda big but then, in my mind, zi means rf which means small.

I was thinking the logo looked a bit big also. I'll see what we can come up with.

Nice to be here thankyou and good to see a couple of familiar faces already. :)

One question ... I can't seem to upload an avatar. When I click onto 'edit avatar' it brings up the suitable page but with no facility to actually upload anything ... or am I missing something obvious?

I can't seem to unclick the don't use an avatar setting!

Welcome Keith! I'll look into that now and see what is going on...

Edit - I had the custom avatars enabled in one place but disabled in another. Thanks for making me aware of that. Now fixed!

Maybe short for nickname?

The usual suspects ;)
Yes I'm (poll) hopeful this (poll) (which lens thread) will be (poll) different from (poll) (long thread about superiority of ze one true German camera) (poll) RFF.

well, yzblog is a nick or back alley or any names we use on the forum
or at least I thought it was

isn't it how you call it in english?
if not, then I'm sorry

my bad, guys, I'm sorry for that

the strange thing that in hungarian forums we call usernames a 'nick' from the english word 'nickname'

but then it is different here
anyway, how you call the usernames in a forum?

Amin Sabet
12-09-2008, 01:25 PM
No reason to apologize! I usually say username, but nick sounds good to me :).

Would be really great if some of you guys would start an album (http://ziforums.com/album.php) and upload a few photos to it. I just installed a forum add on to display random album pictures on the main page, and right now there are only two of us with albums! I don't like seeing my photos every time I got to the main forums . Albums can be designated as either "public" or "private" (visible only to contacts). Only photos from public albums will be shown on the main page.

Zeiss on Canon Avatar.

Just like old times.

Well, almost. Except it was a Black Nikon Logo. But other people used Canon P logos. Other people sold adapters to use Zeiss lenses on Canon cameras. Except it was Zeiss SLR lenses on Canon DSLR's. Wow, I'm old. BUT I like the Canon P with Zeiss Glass!

HI Everybody... I'm sure no one will see past my clever choice of a Nick for my true identity...

I was going to go with BS but that would have been toooo obvious.

Don't worry about that, just leave it as it is
it is a very comfortable background colour anyway
(and I like your forum engine a bit better)

Thanks all! I'm glad you like it, because changing the background color means changing everything. If you make the background light, then the text is unreadable, buttons aren't visible, smilies take on a color fringe, and so forth.

I did get one feedback saying the following:
Must say registration is a bit heavy and the fields difficult to navigate when black on blackand when I asked for clarification about how I could make registration easier, he responded,
It was the combination of the color scheme mostly for filling in the registration fields, i.e. finding them in the first placeIf others are having this problem or any other usability issues, please let me know by PM and I'll see what I can do. Making registration easy is obviously an important factor in getting a new forum headed in the right direction.

Hey Jeffrey,

I like how you put your name in place of "Member". Often I don't know what to call people when they use first initial/last name usernames and don't put anything in the sig.

I work in downtown Baltimore.

Welcome to the forums!

I am very impressed with myself! I managed to do the registration and all that stuff by myself!! I might know how to load a Rf camera and process film, but when it comes to novelty items like computers, I am a luddite!
Still have figure out how to make up an avatar and how to post pictures - oh well, it is a learning curve.
Great to see a Zeiss/VC dedicated site too.

Thanks Robert and Tom. Glad to see you guys here!

Tom, let me know if I can help with anything on the forum tech side. The avatar and image posting should be similar to other vBulletin forums including RFF.

Well count me in too.

I'm shooting the G2 with a 21 and the ZM 25 on my Leic@s. Big fan of the T2 also.

Thanks for putting this up. It'll be a nice reprieve from the, ahem, extraneous postings on RFF.

Speaking of extraneous information, some side notes:
Side note 1 [to Amin]: I used to live in Ellicott City.
Side note 2 [to sepiareverb]: I used to live in Taos.
Extra bonus note [to Keith]: My sister once was bitten by a mystery insect in Australia and her entire leg went numb for several hours.

Hi and welcome sepiareverb and Adam!

Adam, I'm glad you lived in Ellicott City and the mystery insect lives in Australia, not the other way around. I used to live in Baltimore, and Ellicott City is much more buggy by comparison.

Hello to joe, Amin, Tom, Brian, Keith and all my other friends from RFF and flickr. I only have one Zeiss optic, an M42 Jena 134/3.5.

But by my being here, you may be able to deduce my (eventual) intent!

So- interested in Zeiss. I've been bitten by the Zeiss Bug as well. Contax II coming in from a fresh CLA to keep the Contax IIIa company.

Ok guys, start putting more pictures in the Albums! I am tired of seeing my own popping up all the time.Cameras are for using!
I would love to see some stuff from the ZF lens line, particularly the 50 macro and the 100 macro. I have seen and played with these lenses, but not enough to have an opinion of them.
I will try to get hold of a ZM 85f4 Teletessar in the near future and post something from it.
Does anyone have shots done with the 35 Biometar and Orthometar - i would like to see those.
Too damn cold for a thin-blooded Vanocuverite to shoot outdoors at the moment. There was a reason why I left the Nordic countries - I hate cold and snow!
I will venture some experiments with the 40f2 and the 58f1,4 on a F in the near future. Love that "close up" lens for the 40f2.0.

Brian

Well, don't look at my albums for this 21st century stuff!

But I will upload more albums made with Classical Glass.

Contax II is coming back from CLA, in time for Christmas!

Yes, Brian, I have an interest in Zeiss lenses, primarily ZM. Some day, when I get an M body, I will strongly consider Zeiss glass. I dearly love the Summilux, but there is no way on God's green earth that I can afford one without either a lottery win or an unwanted change in marital status.

So, the C-Sonnar is on my list to consider, as well as something wider.
