Zeiss has made some wonderful manual focus lenses for Nikon, Pentax and now also Canon. What I find hard to understand is why they did not do it also for Sony's A-mount. Must be a clause in the Sony-Zeiss contract I guess. Hence for the time being, is there a way out of this? Are there any adapters out there that could fit a Zeiss ZF lens on an A-mount. I saw this on ebay recently:

The Sony mount has a lesser flange distance than the Nikon mount, (44.6mm vs 46.5) which means you are out of luck trying to adapt any of those mounts to the Sony without compromising the image quality. There is an lens in that adapter to enable infinity focus...not really what you want in front of a Zeiss optic.

It sounds a bit odd to me, Nikon's flange is longer so Nikkor is easier to
mount to the other shorter flange cameras. I have heard Sony/Minolta alpha
mount have rather small throat, this makes difficult to make such adapter.
Sony inherited Minolta's AF mount, whose flange distance is 44.5 mm and
the same diameter.
