Take up spool compatibility?

Anyone know if a IIa/IIIa take up spool will work in a Contaflex? I have seen a suggestion that it will but when I try it, the spool flanges don't line up with the film guides properly. I haven't tried it with a film though and maybe there's enough room for the spool to position itself correctly. I'd be interested if anyone knows for sure though.

I'll need to dig out the Contaflex from the parts drawer and check on this. I know for a fact that the spool from a Nikon reloadable cassette fits into the Contax IIIa. I've done that one.

Contaflex in the parts drawer eh? Does that mean you might have a spool going spare and, if so, would you be prepared to part with it?

I do have a couple of IIas that I could 'borrow' one out of if they are compatible but I'd rather have a proper one.

I'll look for it! I bought it in a box of camera parts, flat-rate shipping style. If the spool is in there, I'd be willing to part with it.

Thanks Brian. I don't suppose it's a Contaflex Super you have is it, because there's a couple of other parts I could probably use as well.

I have a Contaflex IV, which is the same vintage as the Contax IIIa. The take-up spool looks identical to the take-up spool in my Contax IIIa, and also works in the Contax II. I do not see a part-number, but the markings are the same. It seems to line up correctly. I've also found the Kiev spool works well in the Contax II, so it looks like the design did not change through at least the Contaflex IV. The Contaflex Super added the lever advance, and came after the RF cameras.

OK. Thanks for checking it out anyway. I'll have to try a Contax spool when I get the camera back together and see what happens with a film in it.
